    Volunteer Income Tax Assistance


    The VITA program provides FREE tax preparation services for low to moderate income county residents. VITA helps ensure that resident receive all the credits they are eligible for. This brings individuals and families thousands of dollars in refunds and credits, including the Federal and State Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit, and County’s Working Families Income Supplement (WFIS). County residents filing with ITINs are newly eligible for the State EITC and County WFIS. VITA is free tax return preparation that allows individuals making $60,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speakers to file their taxes with the Internal Revenue Service each year. CADCOM’s VITA program  offers free Federal and State tax preparation with secure electronic filing and direct deposit in approximately 10 days; along with other related service at our Norristown and Willow Grove sites.

    What is the Vita TCE program?

    The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals.

    Community Action VITA is currently recruiting volunteers to serve as tax preparers, schedulers, greeters, interpreters, and quality reviewers for the upcoming tax season. Not only can many New Yorkers get their taxes done for free at VITA sites, but if they have a bank account and use direct deposit, they may receive their federal refund within as few as 10 days. Using direct deposit, people can avoid borrowing against their refund with high-cost loans called Refund Anticipation Loans (RAL).

    IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. The VITA program allows IRS-certified tax volunteers to provide free income tax preparation services with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Montgomery County residents with household incomes of $60,000 or less may have their taxes prepared for free by a certified tax preparer.     • Montgomery County Community Action Agency’s(CAA) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)  program is currently looking for volunteers for the upcoming tax season.

    VITA puts money back into the pockets of families working to pay bills and maintain their households. Every year, our tax preparers at CADCOM return hundreds of thousands of dollars in refunds to our VITA clients at no charge. For service in Willow Grove during the regular tax preparation season (January through April 15th), please call 211 for an appointment.

    What form is used to apply for an ITIN?

    The VITA program offers free tax preparation assistance to low- & moderate-income individuals who earn $60,000 or less per year. Preparation is done by IRS-trained volunteers who assist taxpayers in determining if they are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit & other tax credits. VITA is a free, IRS-sponsored program to help low and middle-income workers have their federal and State personal income taxes prepared and filed electronically at no cost. VITA also ensures that workers receive all the tax credits to which they are entitled. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) created the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Free Tax Prep Program to provide free tax preparation for low- to moderate-income taxpayers using community partners and volunteers. This service is sponsored by the United Way of Greater Nashville.

    The IRS will not allow VITA to prepare taxes without required documentation.

    CADCOM has been providing totally free VITA services for over 10 years and has returned hundreds of thousands of dollars in refunds to our clients. United Way NCA raises awareness and supports access for eligible individuals. Bryn Mawr College has been partnering with CADCOM since 2004 to help provide free tax-services to Norristown residents through the IRS-sponsored EITC-VITA program. Ngo Ngwe said she heard that Montgomery County was pairing residents like her — people who earn $60,000 or less per year — with tax experts for free. But when her friend showed her the refund she got from the IRS, she immediately contacted county officials.

    CAA VITA will be following a Hybrid model, we will be completing in-person sessions and VIRTUAL sessions. We provide all the materials and training to ALL volunteers, we only required a 3/4-hour commitment a week during tax season. We are flexible with the hours and volunteers can choose any of the various locations. Starting in 2022, our program is authorized for MCPS SSL hours.

    United Way Offers Free Tax Preparation for Montgomery County

    The Community Action Agency and its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) partners are now offering FREE tax appointments for Montgomery County residents with household incomes of $56,000 or less. VITA volunteers learn to prepare taxes from IRS professionals and use those skills to make a difference in the National Capital Area. This is a valuable service that helps many filers understand their taxes and file them correctly to receive the highest return.

    Walk-in appointments are available on a first come, first served basis in Rockville on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. In addition to VITA, the TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly ) offers free tax help, particularly for those who are 60 years and older with questions about pensions and retirement related issues. The mission of the Montgomery County Community Action Agency is to advance social and economic mobility among communities and neighbors through services, partnerships, and advocacy using an equity lens.

    In general, what must accompany a completed ITIN application?

    On December 1, 2021, New York State will upgrade security protections to our websites and applications. Access to government websites and applications will now require the use of up-to-date and secure web browsers.
