    The VITA program provides FREE tax preparation services for low to moderate income county residents. VITA helps ensure that resident receive all the credits they are eligible for. This brings individuals and families thousands of dollars in refunds and credits, including the Federal and State Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit, and County’s Working Families Income Supplement (WFIS). County residents filing with ITINs are newly eligible for the State EITC and County WFIS. VITA is free tax return preparation that allows individuals making $60,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speakers to file their taxes with the Internal Revenue Service each year. CADCOM’s VITA program  offers free Federal and State tax preparation with secure electronic filing and direct deposit in approximately 10 days; along with other related service at our Norristown and Willow Grove sites.

    What is the Vita TCE program?

    The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals.

    Community Action VITA is currently recruiting volunteers to serve as tax preparers, schedulers, greeters, interpreters, and quality reviewers for the upcoming tax season.     VITA puts money back into the pockets of families working to pay bills and maintain their households. Every year, our tax preparers at CADCOM return hundreds of thousands of dollars in refunds to our VITA clients at no charge.     CADCOM has been providing totally free VITA services for over 10 years and has returned hundreds of thousands of dollars in refunds to our clients. But when her friend showed her the refund she got from the IRS, she immediately contacted county officials.

    CAA VITA will be following a Hybrid model, we will be completing in-person sessions and VIRTUAL sessions. We provide all the materials and training to ALL volunteers, we only required a 3/4-hour commitment a week during tax season. We are flexible with the hours and volunteers can choose any of the various locations. Starting in 2022, our program is authorized for MCPS SSL hours.

    United Way Offers Free Tax Preparation for Montgomery County

    The Community Action Agency and its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) partners are now offering FREE tax appointments for Montgomery County residents with household incomes of $56,000 or less. VITA volunteers learn to prepare taxes from IRS professionals and use those skills to make a difference in the National Capital Area. This is a valuable service that helps many filers understand their taxes and file them correctly to receive the highest return.

    Walk-in appointments are available on a first come, first served basis in Rockville on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. In addition to VITA, the TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly ) offers free tax help, particularly for those who are 60 years and older with questions about pensions and retirement related issues.
